I am a Southerner
by William Davidson

What I believe is not what all men believe.

I believe in God. Not a god, but “the” God. I believe that God came to our earth as Jesus Christ, died on the cross for all of mankind’s sins, and rose from the dead, so that we may believe in Him. I believe that God has given all men a choice: either accept Christ or deny Him. It is our choice. No one can take that away.

I believe that since God allows man freedom of choice, He also gave man the freedom to think for himself. Since man has the right to govern himself, he has a right to choose that form of government which best represents his interests. If that government refuses to recognise and affirm the God-given rights of man, then man has a right to abolish that form of government.

Since 1865, the Southern States have been pillaged, plundered, and robbed of their natural and economic resources for the benefit of the Northern industrial complex. Our children are taught in schools, paid for with our taxes, that they and their ancestors are and always have been ignorant, barbaric, and backwards second class citizens, and that all Southerners should feel ashamed of their heritage.

We are discouraged from waving or displaying the Confederate battle flag. We are compelled to pledge allegiance to “one nation under God” while at the same time we are refused the right to acknowledge God and Jesus in our schools, streets, and public buildings. We are always portrayed as the villain or rube in many of Hollywood’s movies and television shows. We are made fun of, and are often referred to as racists and bigots.  And we are always reminded that “our side” lost “the war”. We have been led to believe that our Southern ancestors were rebels, traitors, and instigators. It is high time the Southern people join together and demand that the truth be told.

I believe in the right of the Southern people as guaranteed by the authors of the Constitution. I believe that Southerners, too, have the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I believe that Southerners have a right to take back the public schools and educate our children in ways that we see fit, not a Northern-dominated teacher’s union. We have a right to shed our land of a bloated, corrupt, all-powerful federal government that has allowed the Northern industrial machine to bring our economy and environment to near ruin. This is our home, our land, and our country. We have a right to take it back from those who would deny us our basic God-given rights.

I believe in all of these things.

I am a Southerner.
